Arizona is home to the most colorful Petrified wood in the world also known as “rainbow wood”. Nowhere is the fossilized wood as splendidly colored as in Arizona. In order to preserve this unique natural beauty spot, the “Petrified Forest” was declared a national park in 1962. That also means that no visitor is allowed to take a piece of these petrified materials as souvenirs.
Petrified wood was designated the state fossil of Arizona in 1988.
This rough piece has brilliant reds. Because of the way the wood got all its color, it does have fractures. It would be hard to get whole slabs cut from this. To show off its beauty, I would just cut it even and polish the top. I have some very large pieces, also.
